Haggerty Museum of Art Seeks Visitor Experience Coordinator

Position Overview: The Visitor Experience Coordinator serves as the first point of contact for the Haggerty Museum of Art’s visitors, thereby setting the tone for the visitor experience. S/he serves as an advocate for the museum’s visitor while simultaneously promoting the welfare of the museum. The Visitor Experience Coordinator oversees daily visitor experience operations including visitor reception, orientation and admission. S/he manages all visitor traffic including visitors, groups, and staff appointments.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Welcome and effectively orient all museum visitors – including general visitors, tour groups and staff appointments – following orientation policies and procedures developed and articulated by the museum.

2. Hire, train, schedule and supervise part-time student guards.

3. Perform opening and closing procedures including arming and disarming the museum security system. Detect and report any unusual circumstances, unsafe conditions, security risks, property damage, etc.

4. Sell museum merchandise, memberships, and event tickets. Prepare and submit gift shop sales to Bursar’s Office.

5. Implement safety and security procedures developed by Campus Safety and the Haggerty Museum of Art, utilizing the panic button to summon Campus Safety in case of an emergency.

6. Track visitor attendance, including programs and special events, and develop and submit monthly attendance reports.

7. Help develop and administer visitor surveys. Develop and submit visitor survey reports.

8. Answer the Haggerty Museum of Art’s general telephone line, and provide basic information to callers.

9. Update online community and Marquette University calendars with the Haggerty Museum of Art’s exhibitions, programs, and special events.

10. Assist with set-up and tear-down for special events (tables, chair, podium, a/v, sound system, etc.) Coordinate day-of catering setup for special events.

11. Assist the Curator for Academic Engagement with class set-up and facilitation, including the set-up and configuration of computers, projectors, screens, etc.

12. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

• Requires a high school degree

• Two years prior customer service experience, preferably in museum visitor services or retail, is required.

• Must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, diplomacy and tact in dealing with sensitive situations.

• Ability to exercise sound and mature judgment.

• Must possess ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

• Ability to work independently.

• Ability to interact professionally and effectively with a diverse public is required.

• Ability to remain alert at all times.

• Strong commitment to providing quality customer service.

• Working knowledge of computers, and audio visual and sound equipment

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• Interest and/or experience in museums preferred
