Brief History of the Space:

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Chay Yew, Victory Gardens is dedicated to artistic excellence while creating a vital, contemporary American Theater that is accessible and relevant to all people through quality productions of challenging new plays and musicals.

After a $11.8 million renovation, Victory Gardens moved into the historic Biograph Theatre in the Spring of 2006.

The Začek McVay Theater

In September 2006, Victory Gardens Theater opened a 299-seat mainstage at the landmark Biograph Theater, a site known for its complex and storied history.

The Theater is named for long-time Artistic Director Dennis Začek and his wife, Founding Managing Director, Marcelle McVay. The Chicago Tribune called the renovated space “beautiful…gorgeously restored”! Let your production be Chicago’s next main attraction! Our state-of-the-art, critically acclaimed theatre puts your audience in the lap of luxury and at the epitome of intimacy.

The theatre features roomy, comfortable seats with ample leg room, incredible acoustical design, fantastic sightlines and the world of the stage at your fingertips. Production companies will benefit from our sound and light package, large backstage area with two dressing rooms and a greenroom, and front of house services.

The Richard Christiansen Theater

Victory Gardens’ brand-new state-of-the-art upstairs studio space, named after Chicago Tribune Chief Critic Emeritus, is now open!

Seating 109, the Richard Christiansen Theater maintains intimacy while allowing comfort for both audience and performers. Be among the first to rent Chicago’s newest and most exciting performance space. Production companies will benefit from our sound and light packages, backstage area with two dressing rooms, greenroom access, and front of house services.

  • Fully ADA Compliant House – 109 seats, 20 are flexible
  • Stage – 37’2″W x 20’0″D x 13’3″H; 14″ deck height
  • Small light package including standard light inventory, light board, cabling

  • 2 private restrooms

The Seigle Lobby

The site of first impressions, the Seigle Lobby, in its rich reds, greens and golds, is a warm and inviting atmosphere for your next gathering.

Let the ambience of the marble bar, exposed brick walls, and lit colonnade draw you into the magic of the theatre.

Set behind the historic façade of the Biograph Theater is the Prince Charitable Trusts Event & Rehearsal Room

Overlooking the famous marquee and boasting some of the most beautiful Palladian windows in the city, the Prince Room is both intimate and grand to play host to your memorable occasion. From business luncheons to birthday parties, board meetings to benefits or a corporate training event, the Prince Charitable Trusts Event & Rehearsal Room will cater to your function needs.
