Renaissance Theaterworks’ search for a new managing director is now over. The company announced that it has promoted current Director of Development Lisa Rasmussen to the managing director role, effective December 2017.

“I’m thrilled to lead Renaissance Theaterworks alongside my dear friend, inspiring colleague and partner-in-crime: Lisa Rasmussen,” said Suzan Fete, co-founder and artistic director of RTW.  “I believe I am the luckiest girl in the world; I get to go to work every day with the finest, most dedicated theater professionals in the world (seriously they are!)”

Rasmussen will take over for Producing Director Julie Swensen, who resigned from RTW in July to join Forward Theater Company in Madison as its new managing director.

RTW, now in its 25th season, is Milwaukee’s only women-funded, women-run professional theater company dedicated to improving gender parity. RTW has produced 66 full productions and 40 staged-readings since its inception.

"It is my life's passion to support human connection through superb storytelling at Renaissance Theaterworks,” Rasmussen said. “Also, the current gender disparity in theater business is not widely known. I am energized to help build awareness and work toward change. What gets me up every morning is helping to create a home for women in Milwaukee theater."

Rasmussen served as RTW’s director of development for nine seasons. Since 2008, she has grown the company’s income by 120%, attributing to RTW’s 25 years of debt-free operation. RTW plans to announce the job posting for a new development director at a later date.

"The transition from
development director to managing director is an exciting challenge for me, personally and professionally,” Rasmussen said. “I am thrilled to deepen Renaissance Theaterworks' relationship with all that is good in Milwaukee and to help where growth is needed in areas of inequality. I look forward to building on our past success to bring Renaissance to the next level in the next 25 years.”

RTW’s 25th season will include Sex With Strangers, Oct. 20 – Nov. 12; Russian Transport, Jan. 19 – Feb. 11; and Top Girls, April 6 – April 29. To learn more about these shows and order tickets, visit r-t-w.com or call the box office at (414) 291-7800.
