Synopsis

In this hilarious comedy by the author of LEND ME A TENOR and MOON OVER BUFFALO, two English actors, Jack and Leo, find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing “Scenes from Shakespeare” on the Moose Lodge Circuit in Pennsylvania. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long-lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is, when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren’t nephews, but nieces!

Character Descriptions

Male Characters

Duncan Wooley (age: early 40’s) Local minister, engaged to Meg. A good man, but fussy, headstrong, egocentric.

Doc Myers (age: mid 50’s) Local doctor, Chief Moose, likeable curmudgeon, boisterous, stocky, father to Butch.

Leo Clark (age: early 40’s) A clean shaven, Shakespeare actor from England (yes, English accent required), marginally gifted, charming yet mildly pompous, prone to temper tantrums, longs to achieve stardom…

Jack Gable (age: late 30’s to early 40’s) A clean shaven, Shakespeare actor from England (yes, English accent required), Leo’s partner, easily dragged into Leo’s harebrained schemes (think Ethel to Leo’s Lucy), nice guy, longs to settle down…

Butch Myers (age: early 20’s) A little slow on the uptake, built like he played high school football, sincere, good-hearted.

Female Characters

Meg Snider (age: early 30’s) Local girl, vivacious, warm, great sense of humor. Has unfulfilled dreams of the great big world outside of central Pennsylvania she has yet to experience.

Audrey (age: 20) A well built, extremely sweet and good-natured, an “intelligent airhead.” Audrey roller-skates. The director would most likely be really impressed if auditioners showed up with their own roller skates prepared to dazzle.

Florence Snider (age: 60+) An extremely crusty, terrible eyesight, wealthy, wily, ailing… or hypochondriac?

**Rehearsal times are subject to change based on availability of cast but are generally 5 nights a week from 7:00 pm -10:00 pm.
