Artemisia celebrates the upcoming 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment with THE SUFFRAGE PLAYS, an evening of three one-act comedies focused on the importance of voting rights for women. Artemisia will offer post-show discussions at selected performances to examine the history of voting rights and the impact of one person – one vote on the 2020 presidential election.

CHICKY depicts a conversation between a suffragette charwoman and an upper-class matron. In MISS APPLEYARD’S AWAKENING an anti-suffrage activist comes to realize the fallacies and illogic of her views.
Shaw’s one-act farce satirizes British politicians and their attitudes against suffrage by imagining a time when suffrage activism leads to a chaotic society and the imposition of martial law.
