Alaina and Alex are strangers when Alaina and her husband adopt Alex's baby girl, but they form an unexpected bond that transforms them both. Chronicling eighteen years of their tumultuous and powerful relationship, Alaina and Alex make up the rules as they go along, determined to balance what's best for the child with their families, jobs, and obligations. Narrated by Sara, the young woman that baby grows up to be, “My Real Mother” is filled with humor and heart and set to a lush, contemporary musical theatre score. Riley Thomas is a New York-based playwright/composer. Notable projects include the feature film “Stuck,” starring Giancarlo Esposito, Amy Madigan and Ashanti. His musicals “Stuck” and “Wearing Black” collectively garnered five awards at the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF). Wearing Black continues its development after an invited industry reading starring Constantine Maroulis at Playwrights Horizons. Riley is the Production Coordinator for the Broadway Bound Theatre Festival (BBTF), a member of ASCAP, the Dramatists Guild, a 2017 New Group Workshop Playwright, a 2016 Weston Playhouse Invited Artist, and recipient of the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust Grant and Johnny Mercer Songwriter's Certificate. His work has been performed all over the country and in NYC, notably at famous venues such as Lincoln Center, Feinstein's/54 Below, the Metropolitan Room, the Laurie Beechman and the Duplex.
