This charming musical comedy utilizes pop songs from the 1950’s and 1960’s to tell the story of Springfield High Songleaders Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy. Act 1 begins at the senior prom for the class of 1958, where the girls are invited to perform. Throughout their set, we learn important details about the girls’ lives, like Suzy’s relationship with light board operator Ritchie Stevens, and the infidelity of Betty Jean’s boyfriend Johnny. The four Wonderettes also compete to be the prom queen, all the while performing beloved oldies like Lollipop by the Chordettes and Dream Lover by Bobby Darin. At the start of Act 2, we are transported to the ten-year reunion of the class of 1958, where the Wonderettes once again provide the evening’s entertainment. We see how things have changed over the past ten years, and the Wonderettes must find a way to resolve new issues and old grudges. This charming jukebox musical with book by Roger Bean combines familiar and nostalgic songs with colorful characters for an evening of lighthearted fun.
