What’s Interesting About This Concert
Richard Strauss, known for portraying larger-than-life characters in his tone poems, uses his extraordinary compositional gifts to depict a rambunctious jokester in Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks.
Andrew Staupe, described as a “brilliant” and “immaculate” performer, returns to Lakeview Orchestra following his 2017 performance of Brahms' Second Piano Concerto.
Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto was years ahead of its time when it premiered in 1811, and actually helped spur the development of the modern piano. In fact, a piano capable of sufficiently meeting the demands of the concerto wasn’t invented until the 1820s.
