BEETHOVENPiano Concerto No. 5 ("Emperor")

What’s Interesting About This Concert

  • Richard Strauss, known for portraying larger-than-life characters in his tone poems, uses his extraordinary compositional gifts to depict a rambunctious jokester in Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks.

  • Andrew Staupe, described as a “brilliant” and “immaculate” performer, returns to Lakeview Orchestra following his 2017 performance of Brahms' Second Piano Concerto.

  • Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto was years ahead of its time when it premiered in 1811, and actually helped spur the development of the modern piano. In fact, a piano capable of sufficiently meeting the demands of the concerto wasn’t invented until the 1820s.
