Escape to the theater and be warmed by a dance story for everyone!
Family, fantasy, love, and magic unite in this timeless ballet that poignantly captures a child’s sense of joy and tradition.
The Nutcracker features a cast of nearly 200 performers including students from Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy. Tchaikovsky’s masterful score will be brought to life by the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra and Milwaukee Children’s Choir.
On a Christmas Eve long ago, siblings Clara, Fritz, and Marie Tannenbaum gather at a family party where the guest of honor is a magical toymaker named Drosselmeyer.
When Drosselmeyer gives Clara the gift of a Nutcracker doll, the plot is set in motion for a series of events that leads the children on an adventure filled with dancing snowflakes, toy soldiers, militant mice, waltzing flowers, breathtaking international dances, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and an abundance of joy and wonder.
Milwaukee Ballet is proud to host a sensory-friendly version of The Nutcracker for children and families on December 20 at 6pm. This is the third year Milwaukee Ballet will offer this adapted performance in partnership with Autism Speaks and with support from Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.
Milwaukee Ballet makes adaptations to the holiday classic to make it more comfortable for guests on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing disorders. These changes include using pre-recorded music to control the volume level, leaving the lights on, removing pyrotechnics, and designating “quiet zones.”
