Wild Space Dance Company's mission is to expand the audience for contemporary dance through performance and outreach programs in the greater Milwaukee area and throughout southeastern Wisconsin, reaching diverse communities. Known for site-specific dance events and artistic collaborations, the company merges dance with visual art, architecture and music to create inventive choreography and emotionally-charged performances.
Led by 2011 Milwaukee Arts Board Artist of the Year Debra Loewen, Wild Space Dance Company has intrigued audiences for more than 25 years, since 1986.
Awards and Recognition:
Debra Loewen and the company are critically acclaimed and have been cited among the city's top ten performances of the year by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Recent performances have featured collaborations with Lortel award winning composer Josh Schmidt, nationally acclaimed photographer Tom Bamberger, the Milwaukee County Historical Society, the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Milwaukee Turners. Wild Space has performed in Minneapolis, Chicago, New York, and throughout southeastern Wisconsin. International touring has included performances and teaching in Japan and South Korea.
An affiliate member of UPAF, Wild Space is a company-in-residence at Lawrence University and Lincoln Center Middle School of the Arts in Milwaukee.
